3 Stars From the Hawks Series Clinching Win Over the Wizards

Jeff Teague

Teague really struggled in Game 5. He had 7 turnovers and only 5 assists. His 7 turnovers were as many as he had in the first 4 games combined. It was even reported that Teague told Coach Budenholzer to stay with Schroder in the 4th quarter. Not exactly what you want to hear from your All-Star point guard. However, Teague responded in Game 6 with a marvelous performance. Teague scored 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting, dished out 7 assists, and grabbed 5 rebounds. He also came up with the most clutch plays of the game. On back to back possessions, when the Hawks were really struggling to find a bucket late in the game, Teague created offense off the dribble and dished two beautiful passes to Carroll for easy lay ups. Those two possessions put the Hawks in front, and the Wizards were never able to recover.

Demarre Carroll

Demarre Carroll got back on track Friday night with a huge performance. Carroll scored 25 points on 9 of 14 shooting. When Carroll can give the Hawks this kind of offensive performance, the Hawks are on another level. Carroll also crashed the boards well, grabbing 10 rebounds. And as always, Carroll played spectacular defense on almost every Wizard. He guarded Wall, Beal, Pierce, and pretty much any Wizard that had the ball. He is one the best two-way players in the NBA and other teams are starting to take notice.

Paul Millsap

Paul Millsap was the man that carried the Hawks in the first half of Game 6. The Hawks and Wizards were both struggling to find a rhythm in the first half, until Paul Millsap took over in the second quarter. He scored 15 points in the first half and stretched the lead to 6 before heading to the locker room. Millsap finished with 20 points and was a beast on the boards collecting 13 rebounds.

Honorable Mention:

The Clock

As the clock ticked down to the buzzer the Wizards were down three. The Wizards were able to get the ball into the hands of Paul Pierce who got out of a double team and hit a fadeaway three that would have sent the game to overtime. Fortunately for the Hawks, the ball was still in Pierce’s hands as the buzzer sounded, and the Hawks advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since moving to Atlanta.
