5 Fantasy Wide Receiver Sleepers For 2015

Jeremy Maclin– As a member of the Eagles last season, Maclin broke out and finished the season as the #9 ranked wide receiver according to standard scoring. Maclin signed with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason, and his fantasy value has seemingly plummeted. Yes, somehow the Chiefs managed to go all of last season without throwing a TD pass to wide receiver. It truly is almost unimaginable for something like that to occur in today’s NFL. However, Maclin steps in as a huge upgrade over anybody else in the Chiefs wide receiving core. He is a year removed from a torn ACL, and is in the best shape of his life. Maclin will also be reuniting with his former coach Andy Reid in Kansas City. Alex Smith is not great, but are Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez much better? Maclin’s current average draft position is in the 8th round. Projections have him as a WR3! Maclin will probably not be as explosive as he was last season, but he will not be underutilized in Andy Reid’s offense. The Chiefs opened up their wallets to get this guy, expect him to put up some good numbers.

Nelson Algholar– Algholar was the Eagle’s top pick in the 2015 NFL draft and the 20th pick overall. Unlike in the past, first-round pick wide receivers are now expected to make immediate impacts in the NFL. Take a look at what guys like Odell Beckam Jr. and even the Eagles’ Jordan Mathews did as rookie receivers last season. The Eagles parted ways with #1 receiver Jeremy Maclin and now have a huge hole to fill. Algholar has not been a training camp star, but the Eagles do not have many good options to start ahead of him, and the ones they do have certainly do not have the potential the Algholar does. Chip Kelly’s offense was meant for fantasy, and he did not draft Algholar to sit on the bench. He is a guy you can draft late in the draft, and do not be surprised if he turns out to be starting for you more weeks than he does not.

Steve Smith Sr.– Smith had a very solid 14th season in the NFL last year catching 79 balls for over 1,000 yards. He finished the season as the #20 fantasy wide receiver according to standard scoring. Unlike Algholar, Smith is no spring chicken and is heading into his 15th and final season in the NFL. However, he can still contribute and will be Joe Flacco’s number one option next year. This is a guy going undrafted in many drafts and he is the number 1 option on an NFL team! How is that happening? Smith will no longer carry your fantasy team, but he will be a consistent fantasy option this season, and you might not even have to draft him to get him.

Davante Adams– If you have not heard yet, Davante Adams could be fantasy’s next break out star. Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL today, and there is no question about it. As far as fantasy goes, Rodgers makes Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb two of best wide receivers to own in fantasy, but could there be room for a third? Rodgers has been raving about Adams since the end of last season, and Adams has been performing well all training camp. He looks to be the #3 receiving option for the Packers next season, but if Rodgers and him keep developing this great chemistry, he could become a must-own in all fantasy leagues.

Charles Johnson– Johnson is going in the 12th round in 10-team leagues according to average draft position. The Vikings just brought in Mike Wallace, but I believe his best days are behind him. The best wide receiver to own on the Vikings in the 2015 season will be Charles Johnson. Johnson impressed, as he saw more of the field later in the season. Teddy Bridgewater is entering his second season as the quarterback for the Vikings and seemed to have good chemistry with Johnson. Johnson worked hard this offseason to get stronger and more physical. Look to snag Johnson a little bit earlier in your draft, as he could be in a for a big year with the Vikings this season.
