Adonis Garcia expected to miss at least two months

Braves beat writer for MLB.com Mark Bowman broke some harsh news for the team regarding Adonis Garcia, who was on the 10-day DL after being hit by a pitch on the hand. The injury now looks to be a lot worse than expected, as Garcia will have surgery on his left ring finger and is expected to miss at least a couple of months.

This is extremely disheartening for Garcia, who had just come off the DL with a groin problem and had six hits in his first two games back. Now he finds himself back on the DL for a much longer stint, while the Braves have to find a way to maintain consistent production at third base, which was already a weak spot to begin with.

On the other hand, the Braves will get a real chance to see how their two rookie third-baseman can handle major-league ball. Johan Carmargo and Rio Ruiz have each gotten their chance to get their feet wet in Atlanta, and both have showed flashes of potentially being the everyday starting third baseman for the Braves. With Garcia out, the Braves are going to find out how the future of the position looks.
