Braves Place Williams Perez on 15-Day DL, Call Up Jake Brigham

The injury bug has struck the Atlanta Braves. Williams Perez was hit by a ball in Friday’s game, resulting in him having to leave the contest. After undergoing testing, the Braves decided to place Williams Perez on the 15-Day Disabled List with a bone bruise. Jake Brigham gets the call up for Atlanta, just days after being promoted to AAA Gwinnett. Brigham is originally a Rangers farmhand, and is in his first year with the Braves organization. The 27-year old started 12 games for AA Mississippi this season, pitching to a 3.05 ERA. He made a relief appearances in his only game with AAA Gwinnett and was seen warming up in Saturday’s contest for Atlanta, so it is clear that Brigham is an extra arm for the Braves until Williams Perez’s next scheduled start. My guess as to who will be called up? Manny Banuelos. He made his start for AAA Gwinnett today, so he should be ready to start Wednesday. Losing Perez hurts, as he has been one of the bright spots on a young Braves team. Perez has a 2.88 ERA in 11 appearances (8 starts) for the Braves, and has been a valuable member of the rotation.
