The Braves needed innings from a veteran lefty, and got just that when they dealt two top 30 prospects for Jaime Garcia’s services this offseason. With the Braves still below .500 and the trade deadline nearing, the team is now getting a return on its investment.

Garcia is not what he once was with St. Louis, but he can still pitch. While health has been a past concern for Jaime, he made every start for Atlanta, and even had one really nice stretch for the team. When he can get batters to hit the ball on the ground he is at his best, and southpaws do not grow on trees. The Twins are so desperate for pitching that they even gave Bartolo Colon a shot, if that gives you any idea what they are dealing with in the rotation currently.
The Twins are apparently sending a minor leaguer to the Braves in exchange.

In not-so-sexy news, the Braves are set to promote Aaron Blair to start tomorrow. This could be just how the schedule worked out, as Matt Wisler pitched recently. He, Lucas Sims and Kris Medlen are all candidates to assume Garcia’s rotation spot.
We will update this story as soon as Atlanta’s return is reported.
