Bruce Irvin: “I’m Going to be in Atlanta Next Season”

There have been rumors of a possible Dan Quinn-Bruce Irvin reunion for weeks, but until recently there was no substance to the rumors. This all changed last night at Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards, where he told Samuel Logan of blacksportsonline.com that, “I’m going to be in Atlanta next season. I’m ready.” Irvin, an Atlanta native, has his fifth-year option declined by the Seahawks this offseason, which will make him a Free Agent after this season. Irvin has been vocal about wanting a raise in recent weeks, but it seems the Seahawks aren’t opening their wallets. Irvin was drafted 15th overall by the Seahawks in 2012, and has been a huge playmaker for one of the best defenses in NFL history. He is known as one of the best pass rushers in the league and has 16.5 career sacks. He flourished as the SAM linebacker in Dan Quinn’s system, and the thought of him and Vic Beasley rushing the quarterback has to have Atlanta fans salivating. Irvin ranked out as Pro Football Focus’ 11th best 4-3 OLB in 2014. While a Bruce Irvin homecoming to Atlanta would be incredible, I think their number 1 focus right now financially should be extending Julio Jones. Irvin has been vocal about wanting his pay raise, and Dan Quinn is the most qualified man to gauge his value. As long as the price is right, the possibility of Irvin playing in black and red is not just a pipe dream now. It’s more likely than not.
