Taurean Prince would be a great selection for the Atlanta Hawks. Why one might ask? The fit could not be any more perfect. The Baylor product is your prototypical 3 and D wing. He has the ideal size at 6’8″, 220 lbs and uses that frame to his advantage. That, paired with his instincts, make him a great defensive player. He should be able to guard most wings in the league. This size also makes him a respectable rebounder for his position.
Prince had to work hard to earn his playing time at Baylor, seeing an uptick in minutes every year of his college career. As a Senior this past season, he averaged 30.6 minutes per game. He posted averages of 15.9 PPG, 6.1 RPG and 2.3 APG. All of this came with a 36% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. He is not exactly a shot creator but he stretches the floor due to his shooting abilities.
Which former Hawk does this sound like?
League-wide a lot of scouts are comparing Taurean to Demarre Carroll. If the Hawks can get that production from the 21st pick they will be very happy. Even if he does not end up being Carroll, Prince is clearly a great fit for Coach Budenholzer’s team and is definitely a guy that the Hawks will have on their radar with their first pick. Being from Texas, he clearly went to the Greg Popovich school of interviewing.
He could be a cheap solution to Kent Bazemore’s impending free agency, though it is doubtful he starts year one. Nevertheless, Prince could be the best fit for the Hawks in this draft. Don’t be surprised if you hear his name called to Atlanta on June 23rd. Yes, the Draft is that soon.
