Falcons Sign TE’s Jacob Tamme and Tony Moeaki

Earlier today, the Falcons signed veteran tight ends Jacob Tamme and Tony Moeaki. Tamme was a fourth round pick in 2008 out of Kentucky. He has spent his whole career as a tight end with Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning, with both the Colts and the Broncos. He is a reliable receiver and has had moderate success in the NFL. In Tamme, the Falcons did upgrade at the tight end position. Toilolo was dreadful last year as the starter and had numerous drops. Moeaki offers the Falcons depth at the position and will likely have a bigger role than Toilolo. He was a 3rd round pick back in 2010, and played a big role with the Chiefs earlier in his career. Moeaki will be a quality backup Tight End. Jacob Tamme should be able to come in a have an immediate impact as a possession receiver. However, neither of these guys are the permanent answer for the Falcons at Tight End. With these two signings, Atlanta will likely not seek a Tight End in this year’s draft unless cuts are made, as they now have a handful of them on their roster. Tamme’s deal is for two years With a max value of $4 million, whereas Moeaki’s is a one year deal. Both of these guys have shown pass-catching ability, but I will warn that Tamme’s production has definitely been a product of playing with Peyton Manning. These were decent signings by Atlanta, but temper your expectations. Neither one of these guys is the next Tony Gonzalez by any means.
