Ender Inciarte, known for his multiple Golden Glove awards, had a perfect night at the plate, going 5-5 and propelling the Atlanta Braves to a 5-2 victory vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Inciarte recorded many firsts at SunTrust Park on Opening Day this season, but now has added another first, becoming the first with five hits at the new ballpark. Atop the Braves lineup, Inciarte also added a run and an RBI respectively.
New Braves addition Matt Adams made his new presence known with a mammoth 2-run home run in the 5th, finishing the night 2-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Brandon Phillips also added a homer of his own while tallying two hits.
Mike Foltynewicz held his own on the mound tonight for the Braves, limiting the Pirates to two runs (one earned) over five innings pitched. The bullpen, who has been up and down all year, pitched four hitless innings, ending with Braves closer Jim Johnson closing the door for his ninth save of the season.
The Braves are now 6.5 games back of the Washington Nationals in the National League East, and have won seven of their last ten games. Both pitching and hitting have taken a turn for the better lately. In the previous ten games for the Braves, they had found themselves scoring less than four runs a game while allowing over six. The Braves have lowered their team ERA to 3.80 while averaging five runs a game over their last ten games.
The Braves will look to continue their recent surge tomorrow as veteran R.A. Dickey will take the mound opposite Tyler Glasnow for the Pirates. Game time is 7:35 PM and will be the second of a four game series.
