Jon Asamoah Cut By Falcons

According to several sources the Falcons reached an injury settlement with guard Jon Asamoah today.

Asamoah was signed to a five year deal worth over 22 million dollars before the start of the 2014 season. He started throughout the 2014 season, but was not an ideal fit for the new zone blocking scheme that offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan implemented this season. The guard position has been an unstable position for the Falcons over the last few years, but Asamoah due to both injuries and fit was not seeing the field. Guards Andy Levitre and Chris Chester have had their moments of success this season, but have been poor for the majority of the 2015 season. The move to cut Asamoah will save the Falcons about 2 million dollars in cap space in 2016. Atlanta will obviously look to address the position this upcoming offseason.
