Atlanta and Washington square off in the preseason opener tonight, but fans will miss out on seeing a few exciting players make their Falcons debut tonight.
Rookie SS Keanu Neal is being held out with a trunk injury, though it is mainly precautionary as Dan Quinn said they do not want to force anything in the preseason. Neal has been doing light work the past few days and should be 100% by next week. Kemal Ishmael will start in place of him against Washington.
Also, veteran DE Dwight Freeney will also sit out the first game while he is learns the playbook, and there is no reason to rush someone with as much experience as him for a preseason game.
RB Terron Ward has an ankle injury and is currently in a walking boot, so the Falcons will look to some of their tryout players for the running game. TE Levine Toilolo is also out with a minor hand injury.
CB Desmond Trufant is good to go following a minor hip injury sustained during training camp, but don’t expect him to play more than a drive or two.
