Lane Adams launches walk-off homer against Marlins

What a day for Atlanta Sports. Moments after a huge win for the Falcons, the Braves won a thriller via a walk-off home run by Lane Adams. After a comeback in the ninth, the Braves won another tight game in extras adding to their list of success as one of the best teams in the league after the seventh inning.

A pitching matchup that featured Orlando Despaigne and R.A. Dickey, meant that this would most likely be a slugfest on a Sunday afternoon baseball game. Both teams raked with a combined 26 hits and 18 runs in 11 innings. The Marlins scored three runs in the second inning to open the scoring off of a few RBI base-hits. The Braves broke out in the third with five runs from five RBI’s on three singles. The Marlins went on to score five straight runs throughout five innings, leading up to the bottom of the ninth.

Down three, Tyler Flowers came up with 1 out and runners on second and third and collected an RBI on a ground out. With 2 outs, Lane Adams walked and Johan Camargo hit a single to load the bases with 2 away. Then down to his last strike, Rio Ruiz hit a  ground ball passed third-baseman Brian Anderson that scored two runs to tie the game at 8. Matt Kemp ended the frame with a fly out to right field. After a scoreless tenth, Arodys Vizcaino got out of a huge jam in the top of the eleventh with the bases loaded and 2 outs by striking out Brian Anderson. Tyler Flowers hit a single with one out which led to Lane Adams stepping in the box. On the first pitch he saw, Lane crushed one over the left field wall to complete the comeback and sealed a 10-8 victory for the Braves.

Both starting pitchers were gone by the sixth inning and each bullpen had it rough as well. The lineups hit well from top to bottom and there were seven players with multi-hit games. The Braves actually sealed the division winner as well. The Nationals won and with the Marlins losing, they are the first team to clinch a division this year. Arodys Vizcaino got the win and Vance Worley took the loss. Both home runs came from guys that rarely get one over the wall. Dee Gordon hit his second home run of the year and Lane Adams with just his third.

A very convincing day in Atlanta, where young stars shined for both the Falcons and Braves as both teams have promising futures. For the Braves, they begin a three-game series with the Nationals in D.C, starting on Tuesday. Julio Teheran makes the start, facing Gio Gonzalez in what should be a pitchers duel.
