Manny Banuelos Begins Rehab Assignment

Manny Banuelos made his first rehab appearance Saturday for the GCL Braves. He pitched two scoreless innings. Banuelos was highly effective in his time with Atlanta before being injured. He had a 2.49 ERA in 5 appearances (4 starts). Banuelos was unbelievable for AAA Gwinnett this season after being acquired for David Carpenter and Chasen Shreve and finally made his MLB debut. He does have an injury marred past, however, and he is on an innings limit for 2015. For this reason, the Braves may utilize him out of the bullpen down the final stretch. However, with the season winding down I feel it’s more likely he starts, especially with him being a southpaw with Alex Wood in LA. He will likely take Mike Foltynewicz’s spot in the rotation, who continues to show promise yet struggle. Banuelos was put on the DL in late July, and scared many when the results came back as elbow inflammation. The team is keeping close tabs on Banuelos’ health, so him going out there is an indicator that the injury is fully healed. We hope that Manny can come back soon and pitch like he did earlier this season.
