After a hat-trick against the Houston Dynamo, Miguel Almiron has been voted MLS Player of the Week for week 12. The POTW award is selected by journalists from the National Association of Soccer Reporters.
Miguel opened the scoring for Atlanta against Houston on Saturday night with a goal in the 30th minute that is up for MLS Goal of the Week, so let’s go win that one for Miggy too. He currently leads the voting at 44%, and the polls close on May 25th. Almiron went on to score the second goal of the match in the 42nd minute after he took a pass from Asad, somehow made his way through two defenders and found the upper 90. His hat-trick was completed after Atlanta was awarded a penalty kick after Villalba was taken down in the box.
Miguel Almiron is not the first player to earn these honors, as we saw Josef Martinez win the award after a hat trick of his own against Minnesota United earlier this season.
