Mike Minor Likely to Miss the Rest of the Season

According to Bill Shanks and other Braves reporters, pitcher Mike Minor will undergo shoulder surgery sometime this week. Minor was the 7th overall pick in the 2009 MLB draft by the Braves and had some success in his early years with the Braves. His best year came in 2013, where he recorded a 13-9 record with a 3.21 ERA. Minor entered 2014 with high expectations, but really struggled posting a 6-12 record and 4.77 ERA. Throughout most of the 2014 season, Minor complained of shoulder soreness, but tried to continue to pitch through the pain. The soreness never really went away as he was scratched from pitching in spring training this year. He attempted to start a throwing program before the start of the season, but the soreness was still there. Minor started the year on the 15-day DL and was moved to the 60 day DL on May 2nd because he wasn’t making any progress with his recovery. With Minor scheduled to have his shoulder surgically repaired, he is expected to miss the rest of the season. Many speculate that with his high arbitration price tag and our flux of pitching prospects, Minor has pitched his last pitch as a Brave. We wish Minor a speedy and healthy recovery.
