The Braves won their 2nd game in a row yesterday. Featuring a strong outing from their pitcher Mike Foltynewicz and a big 7th inning, they were able to blow by the Marlins to win 7-2. Freddie Freeman stayed hot and when he does, the Braves do good things.

Mike Foltynewicz led the Braves with another terrific outing, going 6 1/3 with eleven strikeouts only giving up four hits and one run on yet another home run from Giancarlo Stanton. Mike is looking like the strongest pitcher in the rotation putting together the most quality starts for the Braves, the most wins and has now lowered his ERA to below 4.00. He also finally got some run support after he left to hold onto the win. The scoring didn’t start until the 6th inning when Stanton had another one of his towering blasts to increase his total of home runs to 36. In the bottom of the 6th, the Braves were able to get a couple of runs to help him out. Freddie Freeman came through with an RBI single to left field and then Nick Markakis hit a double over Yelich’s head in center to score Freeman to take a 2-1 lead. After Foltynewicz left with one out in the 7th and a runner in scoring position, Sam Freeman came in and got a big strike out and a ground ball to get out of the inning to keep Mike’s win intact. The Braves gave him an even better chance at getting the win after the big 7th inning. It started with back-to-back walks, then a sacrifice bunt and another walk. That loaded the bases for Brandon Phillips who hit a 2-run single to left field. Freddie came up after that with two on and hit an opposite field 3 run shot to give the Braves a 7-1 lead. The Braves ended up winning 7-2 after Stanton tallied another RBI in the 8th inning.

The bullpen did a good enough job to seal the deal. Jason Motte made his first appearance after being brought off the DL before the game and gave up one run. Mike got his 10th win and Marlins pitcher, Dan Straily, got his 8th loss. Vizcaino got his 3rd save in the last four days, and Freddie got his 20th home run of the season, which is very high considering he missed almost seven weeks. The Braves still struggled with men on base even though they got seven runs. They left six on and went 3-11 with RISP…. definitely something they need to work on. Giancarlo Stanton is on a tear right now. Last night, he hit his MLB leading 36th home run and now has all of his team’s RBI’s this series with five. For Mike Foltynewicz, he didn’t mind it because his team won and he recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts. Matt Adams went hit-less again going 0-3. His struggles at the plate right now are making it hard for Snitker to keep putting him in the lineup. Ozzie Albies also got his 2nd career hit with a lead off single in the 3rd inning.

The Braves have finally strung a few wins together, something that they haven’t done since they beat the Dodgers twice in a row, a week after the all-star break. They look to sweep the Marlins with Lucas Sims on the mound making his second career start. He faces Jose Urena of the Marlins at a 1:35 start time at SunTrust Park. The kids run the bases after the game and hopefully the Braves can run around the bases a few times as well.
