Atlanta Falcons

Football is back, baby! This is the moment all of us Atlanta fans have been waiting for ever since last season ended so sourly. Even if it is preseason, it is going to be fantastic to see our Falcons running around at full speed in the always spectacular red and black uniforms.

They will take on the Dolphins tonight a 7 ET in Miami. This game will mostly feature players on the cusp, as the roster begins to shrink week by week. Wide receivers Julio Jones and Taylor Gabriel will miss the game as a precaution, as will the recently signed Jay Cutler for the Dolphins.

Atlanta Braves

Dansby Swanson made his first start back in over two weeks and did not get the results he was looking after going 0-4, and failing to come up clutch with 2 outs and a runner on in the bottom of the ninth inning. It wasn’t all Dansby’s fault as to why the Braves lost though. The Braves had plenty of other opportunities but failed to cash in on them. They left six on base and went 1-6 with RISP. Atlanta out hit the Phillies 9-5 but got out ran 3-2. We did see a good outing from Sean Newcomb, who went six innings giving up two earned runs on five hits and only one walk while striking out six. He got his 7th loss of the season, although his stat line looked more like a winning line rather than a losing one. All of the Phillies five hits came from the first three hitters in the order. Newcomb even got the first hit of his career on an infield single to the shortstop. For the Braves this looked like the same exact story but a different game.

The Phillies struck first in this one on an Odubel Herrera triple off the right field wall but scored on a throwing error from Ozzie Albies, making it a “little-league inside the park home run”. Afterwards in the 5th, Freddy Galvis doubled to plate the Phillies third run of the game. In the 7th inning, Ozzie Albies hit a double into the right field gap to put runners on 2nd and 3rd followed by Danny Santana delivering another pinch-hit RBI with a two run single to right field. That was all of the scoring for the Braves, who had just one lousy pinch-hit RBI. Each team ended up with two RBI’s a piece, each striking out eight times and walking once.

After another loss to the worst team in baseball, record-wise, the Braves continue to just finish the season by calling up young prospects getting ready for the run that the Braves will make in the years to come. Atlanta has an off day before heading to St. Louis for three games during the weekend.
