Atlanta Braves

After a thrilling victory in last night’s game, the Rockies bounced back with vengeance in the third game of this four game set in Colorado. Atlanta sent Mike Foltynewicz to the mound, who has been one of the lone bright spots in the rotation this year for the Braves. But as most Braves fans have seen with the young fireballer, he has a tendency to get shelled every once an a while. That is part of the reason why is ERA is approaching five, yet it is undeniable how effective Folty has been for the majority of this season.

It began right off the bat, as the top of Colorado’s lineup collected three hits off Foltynewicz, plating two to take 2-0 lead. Folty will not feel nearly as bad as he did about those two as he will about the three runs he gave up in the second inning. After a walk, two strikeouts, and another walk, the Rockies strung together back-to-back singles to push the lead to five.

The Rockies really blew the game open in the fourth inning, which resulted in Folty getting pulled. His final line was 3.1 innings, 9 hits, 8 earned runs and 5 strikeouts. Luke Jackson entered the game for Folty and unbelievably put together a worse outing.

Jackson entered the game with two-men on second and third and Mark Reynolds at the plate. With one swing of the bat, Reynolds put the Rockies up nine. Later in the inning, Trevor Story added two more with a home-run of his own, the first of two he hit on the night. Jackson would find himself out of the inning only to find himself in more trouble to start of the fifth. Back-to-back singles followed by back-to-back doubles scored three Rockies and pushed the lead to an astounding fourteen.

It was safe to say, Braves fans could head to sleep early during this one.

Finally, the Braves struck in the top of the sixth on a Nick Markakis two-run RBI single. Those would be the only two runs that would cross the plate for the good side the entire ballgame. The Rockies added a few more before the end of this one, as they crushed the Braves 17-2 in game three of the series to ensure at least a series split.

The finale of the series will take place tomorrow at 3:10 ET. The matchup will feature Lucas Sims in his fourth career major league start. Sims has yet to put together a quality start in the big leagues, but has shown some real flashes of potential. Hopefully he can get his first major league win tomorrow against the Rockies starter Jeff Hoffman.
