Top 10 Atlanta Hawks of All-Time: Number 2

Coming in at number 2 on the list is Lou Hudson. The wing was selected 4th overall in 1966 out of Minnesota, and was quick to make his presence known, as he made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1967. He was also drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1966 NFL Draft, but I think he made the right decision to stick with hoops.

Sweet Lou was a superstar for Atlanta, making six consecutive All-Star appearances. Hudson spent 11 seasons with the Hawks, with the first two being with St. Louis before the team moved to Atlanta. His best season came in 1970, when he was voted to the All-NBA Second Team. This is a guy who was known for his shooting, and he averaged 22.4 points per game in his 11 seasons with Atlanta in a time before the three-point shot was in existence.

Hudson went on to play a couple seasons for the Lakers before retiring. He did Hawks radio play-by-play for a while, and had his number 23 retired by the Hawks.  Lou and Dominique are in their own company when it comes to the All-Time greatest player in our team’s existence. Unfortunately, Lou passed away in 2014 due to a stroke. May the Hawks legend rest in peace.
