What Garza’s injury means for Atlanta United

Nothing bad can come from being an MLS All Star, right? Wrong. A night that was supposed to be enjoyable for Atlanta United fans quickly went downhill when left back Greg Garza went down in the fifth minute with a shoulder injury. Garza was running down the touchline with the ball when a Real Madrid defender challenged and caused the Atlanta United all star to take a spill.

The official injury was listed as a right separated shoulder. While it may not sound that bad, and we are definitely no doctors, the injury could sideline the starter for as long as a month. The good news? Atlanta United will be off for half the month following Sunday’s match vs Sporting Kansas City. Further, Doug Roberson of the Atlanta Journal Constitution shared some good news via Twitter.

Finally, Mikey Ambrose will likely be the replacement during Garza’s recovery. The 22-year-old has proven himself to be in good form during his limited time on the pitch, tallying an assist against the Charleston Battery and standing tall on the back line as a sub.
