We all know that tight ends are thin in fantasy. Some say take one early or load up at other positions and wait. One thing is certain, if you select any of the three tight ends listed in this article, who by the way are going in the top 10 in fantasy drafts this year, there is a strong chance you will be streaming tight ends for the rest of the season. I promise there are better options out there.
Eric Ebron
This should be obvious after Andrew Luck’s out of nowhere retirement. But knowing how scarce the position is, some still may try to select Ebron in hopes he can capture a fraction of his 13 touchdowns. I would not recommend that. Ebron will get nowhere near his 110 targets he got last season, and it does not help that the Colts have had Jack Doyle taking away his snaps. They also brought in Devin Funchess, a big-bodied receiver who can play a similar role. This team was built for Andrew Luck, not Jacoby Brissett, and Indy’s position players take a huge hit.
David Njoku
Njoku is talented but has certainly not been a reliable weekly starter. Sure, he has more experience in the league, and the Browns offense figures to be better this season. But OBJ and Jarvis Landry are both target hogs, and may not leave many for Njoku. I have a hard time seeing him getting 88 again. I would stay away and let someone else buy the hype.
Vance McDonald
Sure, the Steelers lost Antonio Brown, freeing up more targets. But I figure for a ton of these to go to James Washington and Donte Moncrief. JuJu’s target share will be big-time, and James Connor will get a bunch too. But losing Brown is significant, and Big Ben is not getting any younger. The Steelers offense, in all likelihood, will be fine, but I don’t see McDonald having a much more substantial role than he did last year. McDonald may benefit a bit from the uptick, but I think he lacks the impact talent to be a formidable option in fantasy.
