Alberto Callaspo Traded to the Dodgers… Or Not

Alberto Callaspo was a late scratch from the lineup last night shortly before the Braves took the field against the Dodgers. We finally received an explanation after the game:

This is all the information we really had until this morning, when Ken Rosenthal cleared the air a bit…

Looks like the hold up, however, was that Callaspo has the right to deny any trade until June 15th, as he was just signed this offseason. It appears that due to a logjam in the LA infield, he has done just that:

It’s very likely that Callaspo will be designated for assignment in order to make room for Chris Johnson, who is expected to return Thursday. Callaspo has really struggled this season and has had to see an expanded role due to injuries to Kelly Johnson, Chris Johnson and Phil Gosselin. It appears Pedro Ciriaco will assume the backup infielder role for Atlanta, but according to Bowman, they may still pursue Uribe:

We will be sure to keep you updated on any developments regarding this situation.
