The club announced today that Nick Markakis has been cleared to re-join the team, and Cristian Pache has been optioned back to Gwinnett.

While it’s great to get Kakes back — who has arguably been Atlanta’s best hitter since his return — it’s frustrating to see it come at Cristian Pache’s expense. With Ender Inciarte being an offensive negative, it would have been nice to see Pache a little more. We got a very limited look at Cristian, but it’s time to see what he can do for a club that sorely needs some offense. Pache clocked a 96 MPH throw from left-field flat footed, so I don’t see any defensive downgrade by playing him over Ender. The Braves also started his clock to let him get four ABs and ride the bench. I understand there were a rash of injuries, and Pache was the only non-catcher left on the 40-man to call up… but I still find it inexcusable not to play him over Ender while he was up. Let the kid get some hacks and see what he’s made of. We’ll have to wait until next time to get a good look at him, but there could always be an open roster spot if there’s a trade this weekend.
