Braves: Bauer jokes about how he wouldn’t be embraced by Atlanta fans

Earlier today, the Braves capped off their first playoff series win since 2001 behind another magnificent starting pitching performance — this time by rookie Ian Anderson, who went six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine. With the win, the Braves move on to the NLDS, where they will face either the Cubs or Marlins. However, for the Reds, they enter the offseason with some critical decisions to make — most importantly — whether to bring back the NL Cy Young award favorite, Trevor Bauer.

Bauer is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and every team in the league will be vying for his services, including the Braves, who could use his arm atop their rotation, along with their three-headed monster of Mike Soroka, Max Fried, and Ian Anderson. However, after the game, Bauer took the time to acknowledge the fans in his mentions, and as Braves Twitter can be at times, they didn’t take it easy on him after his antics in Game 1.

Here’s what he had to say to the Braves’ fans:

Thankfully, I highly doubt Bauer’s decision will be deterred by what a few sour grapes said in his mentions. He’s well aware of just how passionated the Braves’ fanbase is, and how he would be received if he chose Atlanta in free agency.

With that being said, Bauer might be the most coveted free agent this offseason, and the Braves are rarely interested in doling out contracts north of $100 million. So unless he is serious about taking one-year deals until the end of his career, I don’t see him wearing a Braves uniform next season. However, he might not be necessary, given Anderson and Wright’s emergence over the last month of the season.
