The Braves made an exciting roster move this afternoon, activating Darren O’Day from the 60-day IL and placing him on the active roster. In a corresponding transaction, Atlanta placed Alex Jackson on the 60-day IL with a knee sprain. Someone had to be kicked off the 40-man roster so that O’Day could join the team, and Jackson was the unfortunate casualty. On top of that, the Braves called up Adam Duvall from AAA Gwinnett as well, putting their active roster at 32.

O’Day has been perfect in his minor league rehab assignments, appearing in four games, allowing no runs and striking out six. He could be another gargantuan boost to the Braves bullpen that has already been the best in the National League for the last two-plus weeks. O’Day has a 2.56 ERA for his CAREER and a WHIP of 1.03 in 555 innings. However, he hasn’t appeared in a major league game in over a year and is now 36. I wouldn’t expect him to be the dominant reliever of the past, but he could still be a valuable contributor in the postseason.

Adam Duvall was sent back down to Gwinnett after a major slump. He has three home runs in seven games for the Stripers since his demotion and was recently named the Player of the Week.
