Braves complete another trade with Royals

Late last night, the Braves cut the cord on Michal Soroka, sending him, Nicky Lopez, Jared Shuster, Riley Gowens and Braden Shewmake to the White Sox for left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer.

Losing Soroka is a tough pill to swallow. I think I speak for all of Braves Country when I say I was dying for him to make his triumphant bounce back from back-to-back Achilles injuries. However, he was out of options, and the Braves weren’t going to be able to keep him on the roster. A trade was inevitable.

Today, the Braves made another trade, sending Nick Anderson to the Royals for cash considerations.

Anderson was set to make less than $2 million in arbitration after having a stellar first half of the season with the Braves. But after getting injured right before the All-Star break and missing the rest of the season, he was a non-tender candidate, and the Braves opted to trade him to Kansas City.

I’m a little surprised by this move. The Braves don’t have the healthiest bullpen and could use as many arms as possible, but this is another sign that plenty of other moves are coming down the pike. The 2024 Braves could look much different than the team this year.
