As if this year(s) couldn’t get any worse, the entire baseball community, and sports community really, lost one of the greatest athletes of all-time. Henry Louis “Hank” Aaron passed away this morning at the age of 86 years old.

Aaron made his major league debut at 20-years-old and will most be remembered for being the true home-run king, as he finished with 755 career home runs. However, he was much more than just a home-run hitter. He’s the all-time RBI and total bases leader, but beyond his stats, he was a wonderful ambassador to the game and human being.

Unfortunately, being a kid born in 1995, I never had the pleasure of watching Hank maul baseballs. But being an Atlanta native, Aaron was always like a folk legend to me, someone that would be around forever because of how great he was. Of course, Father Time catches up to all of us, but to do what he did as an African American during the time he lived — that will never be matched.

Rest In Peace, King.
