Braves: Kyle Muller is here to stay

Braves rosters expand September

Yesterday, Brian Snitker confirmed the obvious: Kyle Muller will continue to be a part of the Braves rotation.

Following a rocky major-league debut, which came out of the bullpen, Muller has been nothing short of spectacular in his first two big-league starts.

On June 21st against the Mets, Muller cruised through four innings in just 56 pitches. The only run he allowed came on a wild pitch in the first inning, and he likely would have gone much deeper if it wasn’t a seven-inning game. Because of that, Brian Snitker had to turn to his bench earlier in an attempt to capitalize against Jacob DeGrom. However, Muller proved it wasn’t a fluke this past Sunday against the Reds. The lumbering lefty struck out nine over five scoreless innings and allowed just three baserunners (two walks, one hit) in a game the Braves desperately needed to win.

There’s no disputing this has been a painful season so far for the Braves and their fans, which is why they sit 5.5 games back of first. But if there has been a bright spot, it’s been these young arms thriving at the major-league level. Ian Anderson is proving last year wasn’t a fluke; Huascar Ynoa and Tucker Davidson were outstanding before going down with their respective injuries, and now Kyle Muller is showing signs that he might also be ready for the show permanently. If nothing else, the future is still bright for this club, thanks to an unbelievably talented group of young core players.
