Braves: Max Fried exits start with injury after just one inning

As if things could get any worse for the Braves’ rotation, Max Fried was removed from tonight’s game against the Marlins after just one inning with an injury. It didn’t look to be anything serious, as he finished the frame. However, after fielding a bunt, he did seem a bit out of rhythm and surrendered two home runs and a double before getting the third out.

As the Braves rallied back in the bottom half of the frame, a conversation ensued between Fried and seemingly the entire dugout, resulting in Rick Kranitz making a call to the bullpen. From the broadcast, it looked as if Fried was pushing to go back out there, but with the division already in hand, there was no reason to risk anything, and the Braves made the wise decision by turning to Luke Jackson.

The official word is that it is an ankle issue, and Fried was removed as a precaution with the playoffs coming next week.

It doesn’t seem as if this will prevent him from making his Game 1 start in the Wild Card series. However, we will keep you posted with the details as they continue to emerge.
