Braves: Max Fried set to return from the IL on Wednesday

Braves pitchers who are due for positive regression

The Braves received some dreadful injury news on Sunday as Travis d’Arnaud is headed to the 60-day IL with a torn ligament in his left thumb. They can expect to be without their starting catcher for at least the next three months. However, they are getting the ace of their rotation back this week. Max Fried, who has been out with a hamstring injury, is scheduled to make his first start back on Wednesday against the Nationals.

After an unbelievable 2020, which saw Fried go 7-0 with a 2.25 ERA and finish fifth in the NL Cy Young race, 2021 is off to a nightmarish start. In three outings, he’s posted an 11.45 ERA, 2.545 WHIP, and 6.27 FIP. The sample size is minuscule, but it was clear something was a bit off before he hit the IL. Hopefully, that’s been corrected, and we see the guy who breezed through lineups all of last season. Lord knows the Braves are in desperate need of a boost from somewhere.
