Braves non-tender Adam Duvall

In the most shocking move so far today, the Braves have decided to non-tender Adam Duvall.

Duvall was projected to earn somewhere around $5 million in arbitration. However, I thought he might come in lower than that because of financial concerns due to the coronavirus. It looks like the two sides were so far apart that the Braves decided to move on completely, which is something I never expected after he whacked 16 homers in just 57 games last season.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Braves will still consider signing Duvall in free agency. However, with uncertainty surrounding the DH in the National League, Atlanta thought it would be best to remain flexible.

Given that Duvall is actually a respectable defensive player, I’m not sure that rationale makes much sense. I’m shocked by this move, but we will see if the Braves make a serious run at him in free agency.
