Braves now have the best odds to win the World Series

Ron Washington

Thanks to two straight walk-off victories over the Dodgers to begin the NLCS, the Braves now have the best odds to win the World Series of the four remaining teams. According to Vegas Insider, Atlanta leads the pack at +200, meaning that if you put 100 dollars on the Braves, you win 200.

Right behind them is the Boston Red Sox, who crushed the Houston Astros last night on their way to a 2-1 series lead. They are currently +250 to win the whole thing. The Dodgers, who were once heavy favorites, still aren’t out of it as far as Vegas is concerned. They sit at +300, and who can blame casinos for still believing in Los Angeles. After all, they were in this exact same position a year ago against the Braves and won the whole thing. Houston currently has the worst odds as things stand now, but they still aren’t too far behind at +360.

I’ve been monitoring these odds for a while now. With just a couple of weeks left in the season, the Braves were listed at 17/1 to win it all. I thought that was a steal, and I thought they were still a steal at 12/1 when the playoffs began. However, I wouldn’t touch the Braves at this price point. They’ve lost 10 of their last 11 games at Dodger Stadium, including nine in a row, and they are 0-4 in their last four postseason games in Los Angeles.

I do think this Braves team is different than last year’s and is better suited to defeat the Dodgers; however, this won’t be a walk in the park. The series is far from over, and then Atlanta has a World Series to worry about. +200 isn’t a good price right now. If you still are looking for an opportunity to bet on the Braves winning the World Series, it’s probably best to wait until after they play in Los Angeles.
