Braves: Ozzie Albies and Matt Adams not close to a return

Over a week ago, the Braves placed both Matt Adams and All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies on the 10-day IL, which would allow them to return this weekend. However, according to Brian Snitker, don’t expect that to happen anytime soon. The Braves manager doesn’t think either will be ready over the next week.

For Matt Adams, this news is not all that surprising. The veteran came up holding his hamstring after attempting to beat out a throw to first base. Those types of muscle injuries are never easy to return from and can flare up easily if rushed back, so the Braves will take things very slowly in his recovery.

It’s much more difficult to judge what Albies’ timetable might be. As far as we know, this extra rest might not be doing much for his wrist, and it could just be pain he must play through if he wants to contribute this season. Let’s hope that’s not the case, and Albies will be back to 100% for the stretch run coming up.

Many teams have been hampered by injuries early in this shortened campaign, but none more so than the Braves. Atlanta has already lost Mike Soroka for the season, Cole Hamels may never pitch a game, Ozzie Albies has yet to show up, Matt Adams is limping, and now Ronald Acuña will miss at least the next three games with wrist inflammation. Somehow, the Braves have won 11 out of their first 20 contests, but that’s not sustainable if they can’t get healthy.
