Braves: Ozzie Albies reaches milestone in win over the Diamondbacks

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the Braves infield is doing something pretty special. Freddie Freeman has 30 home runs, Austin Riley joined him on Tuesday with his 30th homer of the season, and on Wednesday, Ozzie Albies became the third member of Atlanta’s infield to reach the 30 home run mark with this blast.

Swanson isn’t far off from making it a clean sweep, either, just four home runs shy of 30. But back to Albies; his 30th homer also set a new franchise milestone. He is now the only Braves second baseman to ever have 30+ homers and 100 RBIs+ in the same season.

Coming in at the same time as Acuna, Albies oftentimes gets forgotten by the national media. So much so, that back in June, Albies was ranked 17th on MLB Network’s 25 best players under 25 list… behind Gavin Lux and several other names that haven’t been nearly as productive as him. Albies is on the short list of the best second basemen in baseball. He’s already a two-time All-Star, and now he’s done something that no other player at his position in Braves history has accomplished. You could argue that his contract — seven years, $35 million — is the best bargain in the game today.

Most importantly, the Braves got the win by a score of 9-2. Riley and Freeman also smashed homers — their 31st of the season — and Duvall would have had his team-leading 38th long ball, but a weird sequence of events on the base paths turned this shot over the fence into a two-RBI single.

Regardless, the meat of this Braves lineup looks to be finding its footing again, which is a scary thought for upcoming opponents.
