After demoting Sean Newcomb to Gwinnett last night, the Braves announced this morning that they have recalled RHP Bryse Wilson.

According to FanGraphs, Wilson remains the Braves 5th ranked prospect, even after a couple of failed stints in the majors over the last two seasons.
Wilson features a fastball in the mid-90s and above-average control, but his secondary offerings have held him back so far with the Braves. In his six appearances last season, he threw his fastball nearly 70% of the time, and his highest thrown offspeed pitch was his changeup, which he used just 13.5% of the time. That’s not going to cut it as a starter in the majors, but then again, Wilson’s only 22-years-old. He has plenty of time to figure that out. However, given the Braves rotation woes, hopefully, that time is now.
It has yet to be announced if Wilson is expected to be used as a reliever or a starter, but my guess would be they have called him up to start tomorrow’s game, which would typically be Mike Soroka’s spot. Huascar Ynoa pitched well in his first start of the season, but the Braves likely don’t view him as a full-time starter — at least not yet.
It makes sense for Wilson to be first in line to receive the call among prospects, given he already has some MLB experience, but I would expect his leash to be short. If he can’t give the Braves 3-4 solid innings, it may be a quick stop in Atlanta for him, opening up opportunities for Tucker Davidson, Patrick Weigel, and Ian Anderson.
