Braves: Ronald Acuña Jr opens as a joint favorite for NL MVP

Vegas is high on Acuña in 2021, along with a few other names:

If you asked me who the favorites were to win it this year, I’d probably quickly say Soto, Acuña, Tatis, and Betts. Tatis has the hype, and Soto probably had the best 2020 out of anyone on the entire list. Freddie Freeman is getting a little bit of love to repeat, but Ronald could easily break out and overshadow him in 2021.

Acuña is a notorious slow starter, but it hasn’t presented many issues in Atlanta. With a full 162-game slate hopefully on the menu, Ronald will have plenty of time to gain some momentum. He had a “down” 2020 — if you want to call a .987 OPS a down year. But with a full schedule and no injury troubles, Acuña has a fantastic chance to become the next member of the 40/40 club.

After missing time in 2020 with a positive COVID test, Soto had a nutty 1.185 OPS to go along with a .490 OBP. To me, he has the best chance. Tatis will have the hype train at full speed, and Betts may not repeat his fantastic 2020 season, but he will undoubtedly be in the mix. Hopefully, we can get back to back Braves MVPs, but I’m more worried about the guys hoisting the commissioner’s trophy over anything.
