Braves select SS Cal Conley with their fourth pick in the 2021 MLB Draft

Vaughn Grissom call up

The Braves have picked a switch-hitting shortstop with their 126th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, Cal Conley, out of Texas Tech.

Conley is a solid runner, but he may be better suited for a utility role with below-average defense. He has some pop in his bat, but he’s much more of a contact hitter. From MLBPipeline:

He hit an upper-deck home run at Minute Maid Park in March and homered from both sides of the plate against West Virginia in April, though some scouts question how much pop he’ll have with wood bats.

Conley will likely serve as a bench bat that can play all over the field, and soon. Solid pick to fill a need right now for the Braves.

Welcome to Atlanta, Cal!
