Braves: Yasiel Puig tests positive for the coronavirus and is still a free agent

The Braves made a splash earlier this week by signing Yasiel Puig, hoping he would fill the void left by Nick Markakis when he decided to opt-out. However, the signing was pending a physical and COVID-19 testing, and the latter turned out to be a problem. Yasiel Puig sent out this message today via Twitter.

Puig was asymptomatic, but that doesn’t matter, which means he is still a free agent. He will have to quarantine for a couple of weeks and return multiple negative test results to be cleared to play again. At that point, the Braves could re-visit negotiations. However, whether it is Puig or someone else, I’d expect Alex Anthopoulos to be searching for some added depth. The Braves are back in the market for replacing the production of Nick Markakis.
