Could Bruce Irvin finally wind up with the Falcons?

th

It was reported on Monday afternoon that the Oakland Raiders are willing to trade another key piece of their 2018 team, shopping 30-year-old defensive-end, Bruce Irvin, for a late-round draft pick. Due to the former Seattle Seahawks’ connection with Dan Quinn, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that numerous people will be talking about the potential of Irvin winding up with the Falcons.

Both Thomas Dimitroff and Dan Quinn have noted they won’t be looking to add another player to their roster via trade by the NFL’s trading deadline at 4:00pm today; however, would it be wise for Atlanta to add a potential impact player to their defense for the stretch-run of 2018? Maybe, maybe not.

One of the more unique qualities I’ve come to admire about Dan Quinn is that he knows exactly what players fit into their system. Sure, that can get frustrating at times when we, as fans, see a player who could help this team, yet Atlanta decides to move in an entirely different direction. While that may seem like a stubborn approach at times, Quinn has assembled a staff who knows exactly which players fit their strategy. To their credit, they’ve been successful with their current approach.

In terms of Bruce Irvin, the chances of him landing in Atlanta are slim. He hasn’t been productive in Oakland this year and is currently dealing with a pectoral injury. The last thing the Falcons need right now is another defensive player who isn’t healthy, and if they truly desired Irvin, they could have gone after him at any point over the last two seasons.
