Danny Ferry Steps Down as GM of the Hawks

The Hawks have officially cut ties with GM Danny Ferry. The news is not a surprise, but still unfortunate to see. He was on an indefinite leave of absence due to his racial remarks towards current Miami Heat player Luol Deng. Since his suspension, Ferry had kept quiet, but following the news of his resignation, Ferry finally spoke out. He announced his mixed emotions and again reiterated his apologies for the incident. Under Ferry, the Hawks seem to take the next step as an organization. The Hawks made the Eastern Conference Finals, won a franchise record 60 games, and sold a record amount of tickets this season. A buyout was arranged, and Ferry officially stepped down on Monday. It will be seen how the move really changes the Hawks, but coach Mike Budenholzer will continue to make most of the basketball decisions, so I expect there to be little change in how things are run. Danny Ferry was a terrific General Manager of the Hawks. It is sad to watch him go, but Atlanta fans should be forever grateful for the fingerprint he left on the organization. We wish Ferry nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
