The Atlanta Falcons and offensive tackle Tyler Polumbus have agreed on a one-year deal. This looks to be a depth move for the Falcons, as the offensive line is still trying to get better. Polumbus has played under Atlanta’s offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan back in Washington. Signing this player looks to be low risk and high reward. If worst comes to worst, he doesn’t play but he helps the other offensive linemen in learning the new zone-blocking scheme.
In 2013, Pro Football Focus had the ex-Washington offensive lineman graded out as the 18th best tackle. In 2014, Polumbus lost his starting job in week 8, and Pro Football Focus had him ranked as the 62nd tackle in all of football. He started 38 games in the past three years playing on the Redskins. Look for Polumbus to challenge Ryan Schraeder and Lamar Holmes in starting for the right offensive tackle position.
