Falcons: Could this be the hold up in the hiring of Matt Ryan?

Arthur Blank announced on Monday that the Falcons have created a new position within the front office — President of Football — which most believe will be filled by Matt Ryan.

The Falcons’ legendary quarterback has reportedly been mulling over a front office role in Atlanta since last week, according to Jay Glazer, but as more reports surface, his voice already appears to be in the ear of owner Arthur Blank. To this point, there has been no official announcement of his employment, and this could be the reason why.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Matt Ryan is hoping to balance his new front office role with the Falcons alongside his broadcasting career with CBS, similar to the way Tom Brady is currently operating with the Raiders.

Depending on the significance of Ryan’s role within the organization, this might not be too big of a deal. But if the Falcons are truly relying on him to help drive major decisions, it’s probably best they look elsewhere for their next President of Football.

As great as Tom Brady was as a player, he hasn’t shown one inkling of ability in the front office. The Raiders are as big of a dumpster fire as any team in the league, and at least some of that dysfunction lies at Brady’s feet.

Matt Ryan has all the ability to be great in whatever avenue he chooses. He’s shown that both as a player and as a broadcaster, but the Falcons don’t need someone leading their front office who isn’t 100% committed to the job at hand. That could be why no official announcement has yet been made regarding Ryan’s role with the organization.
