The Falcons prized signing of the offseason was Dante Fowler Jr., who is coming of a career-high 11.5 sacks for the Rams. We knew the day he signed the deal that it was for three years and worth $48 million, but we did not know the structure until today.

According to Spotrac, Fowler will only have a cap hit of $6.66 million this season, opening up room for Todd Gurley and potentially another addition later in free agency — preferably on the defensive side of the ball. Fowler’s contract balloons the following two years. He’s set to earn $18.66 million in 2021 and $19.66 million the season after that. The Falcons will be on the hook for his entire salary next year but will have a critical $15 million decision in Fowler’s final year. Atlanta can part ways with him by taking a dead cap hit of just $4.66 million.
