TheĀ FalconsĀ are set to have around $56 million in cap space this offseason, and that figure could quickly balloon to nearly $70 million if Atlanta parts ways withĀ Marcus Mariota. There isnā€™t a single position group that doesnā€™t need top-end talent or depth. Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith are entering a critical juncture in their tenure with more cap space than ever. This continues a series of potential Falcons free agent targets, moving on to Jordan Poyer. Below are past editions:

Falcons Free Agent Targets 2023: Jordan Poyer

The Falcons need a starter next to Richie Grant, and Jordan Poyer is one of the top players at the position hitting the free agent market. Various injuries are a primary factor in the Bills potentially letting him go in free agency, so that should be considered when talking about the Falcons signing him.

As long as he’s on the field, though, Poyer is an excellent player. He’s played through several injuries over the past season, so his toughness has never come into question. He’s logged over 950 snaps every season from 2017-21.

Pro Football Focus predicted that Poyer will see an average of $8.5 million per season with $11.5M guaranteed over two years. Spotrac is higher on the Bills’ safety. The site seesĀ Poyer’s market value at $11 million annually over three years.

I could see Poyer signing a deal somewhere in the middle of those AAVs, but if the Falcons were to target a free agent safety, Jessie Bates III would be my choice because of his durability and age.
