Falcons: Julio Jones finishes outside the top ten, Matt Ryan fails to make the NFL Top 100

I’ll be the first to say I’m one of the happiest people that the release of the NFL Top 100 is coming to a close. Every year, this list proves the players simply don’t care about the rankings (likely), or they just don’t know enough about the players that they play in the league with, and this year was no different.

With only three players making the list, the Falcons weren’t well-represented, but that’s not necessarily surprising after back-to-back 7-9 seasons. Grady Jarrett came in at #91, which was way too low, and Todd Gurley showed up at #51, which was way too high. Yesterday, Julio Jones’ spot was revealed, and he finished just outside of the top ten at #11, which is quite ironic since he’s sported that number his entire Falcons career, but I don’t think he will be too happy that two wide receivers finished ahead of him.

While the order of 1-10 has yet to be revealed, we know who the ten players are, and both Michael Thomas and De’Andre Hopkins are above Julio Jones. People can argue all day about who the best receiver in the league is, but I can tell you who I’m rocking with, and I’m not second-guessing it either. However, leaving Julio Jones outside of the top ten is far from the most disrespectful part of this list, as far as the Falcons are concerned.

After coming in at #69 on the NFL Top 100 last year — 19 spots behind Baker Mayfield (HAHA) — Matt Ryan failed to make the list altogether this year. These things are up for debate, and if you want to say Ryan isn’t a top 100 player, I won’t call you the craziest person on the planet. I wouldn’t agree with you, but it would depend on the other quarterbacks you had in front of him.

I can tell you with 100% certainty though; these quarterbacks that made the NFL Top 100 can’t even hold Matt Ryan’s jockstrap on the football field.

  • #43 Jimmy Garoppolo
  • #46 Dak Prescott
  • #58 Kirk Cousins
  • #68 Ryan Tannehill
  • #87 Josh Allen
  • #90 Kyler Murray

I mean, come on… What is this? I understand the players don’t put much time and effort into this list, but still, I can’t help but think about the 13-year-old on Twitter that is going to tell me Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins, and Josh Allen are better than Matt Ryan because of their NFL Top 100 rank. It shouldn’t bother me… but it does. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to suffer through watching Ryan throw for another 4,500 yards and 30 TDs this year.
