According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Falcons met with Shane Simpson at the Gridiron Showcase back in January.

This is not a surprise as Atlanta will be looking to draft multiple ball carriers, in my estimation. Shane Simpson offers more than a traditional running back, which Arthur Smith must find appealing. This is from an interview with Melo.
I can catch passes coming out of the backfield as well. You can motion me out to the slot. I can be your bell cow if that’s what you need me to be. I also add value on special teams as a kick and punt returner. Check my resume, I’ve done it all. It’s all on tape. I plan on being the same player in the NFL. I want to be on the field as much as possible.
Originally, Simpson attended Townson University as a running back and return specialist. He went on to transfer to Virginia for the 2020 season in an attempt to answer the questions that scouts had next to his name. He’s a five-foot-eleven and 205-pound runner with the agility to make defenders miss and sneaky break-away speed to go the distance anywhere on the field.
A career 1,000-yard rusher, Simpson may not be a statistical monster, but he possesses the tools to be a star in his own right. He has great balance, and although he’s only 200 pounds, he never shies away from contact. What stands out most when watching Simpson is his football IQ. He always seems to understand what the defense is throwing at him. His best attributes have to be the intangibles. Everything I can find on him is positive. He’s a true leader with an unmatched work ethic, who teammates love to play with because he’s insanely competitive.

With Simpson, at the very least, you’re going to add competition to the running back room as well as a quality special-teamer. He seems like the exact high-character individual Terry Fontenot, Arthur Smith, and Arthur Blank are looking to add to the organization.
