Friday Rant: MLB Pipeline’s prospect rankings dish out some serious disrespect to the Braves

These ranking really don’t mean much… at all, but I thought this would make for a fun friday rant. Atlanta has four prospects ranked in the Top 100, and I think the placement of some of these were extremely ridiculous. Let’s start with the worst one — Ian Anderson at 18 — the fourth ranked right-handed pitcher.

I understand a lot of these are about future projection, but what else do you need to see besides a 0.96 ERA in your first 19 playoff innings? Anderson should easily be in the top five and the undisputed first right-handed pitcher. Nate Pearson, Casey Mize, and Sixto Sanchez all sit ahead of them, and while Sixto had a good debut, Anderson is far superior to all of these guys right now. I understand the future potential aspect, but give the love to the guy who has proven it. I’m a little biased with these next prospects, but they all have made very strong cases.

Drew Waters comes in as the tenth-best outfielder, and while I think that’s a low, it isn’t as bad as Anderson’s ranking. Regardless, I think he should be much higher. He’s behind Jasson Dominguez who hasn’t even taken a swing at the minor league level. You can also make the argument that Cristian Pache should be first, but third is fairly acceptable with how well Jarred Kelenic has played. I can respect Shea Langeliers as the sixth best catcher, although I think he should be third behind Joey Bart. After these guys, William Contreras is deserving of a spot, but I understand my bias.
