After being mentioned as a candidate for the Timberwolves general manager position, Landry Fields will hold the same title for the Hawks following a recent promotion.

As Woj mentions, Fields will continue to work under Travis Schlenk, who is really the de facto general manager. This is probably more of an on-paper promotion, though I’m sure there will be increased levels of responsibility for Fields.

Fields notably played for the Knicks and most recently for the Raptors but sat out the 2015-16 season with a nerve issue in his elbow. Then, four years later, the 33-year-old was named the assistant general manager of the Hawks. It only took three years as a scout and one year as a G League general manager for him to reach that position.

Schlenk said a big reason for the hire was because of Fields’ ability to relate to players and establish relationships with them. The Hawks president of basketball operations always said he believes Fields will one day have a team of his own, but for now, he’ll be Schlenk’s right-hand man in Atlanta at one of the most critical junctures in the team’s history.
