Hawks Sign Dequan Jones

The Hawks have announced the signing of Dequan Jones to a training camp deal.

Jones is an Atlanta product that attended Wheeler high school. The 6 foot 8 inch small forward played in the NBA for the Magic in the 2012-2013 season. He played in 63 games and started in 17 of them averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. He was waived prior to the 2014 season, spent it in the D-league and then continued his career in Europe last year.

At 25 years old Jones is still young and could contribute to an NBA team. The Hawks feature a lot of unproven wing players on their roster after the departure of Demarre Carroll, and Jones will now be added to that mix. He is competing for one lone roster spot with guys like Jason Richardson, Lamar Patterson and Terran Petteway. He will have a long road in making the final roster, but the Hawks do need quality wing players, so if he can make an impression on Coach Budenholzer, he could be on the opening day roster.
