In the second quarter of Tuesday night’s clash with the Miami Heat, Trae Young came down awkwardly as he was driving towards the basket and lied on the floor in severe pain. Thankfully, it appears to be the type of injury that is excruciating at the moment but doesn’t carry extensive lingering effects. The point guard will reportedly miss up to two weeks after initial X-Rays were negative. He will have an MRI today to confirm.

As they should, the Hawks are going to take things super cautiously with their star point guard. Young has been tearing the league up early this season, averaging 34 points and nine assists heading into Tuesday’s game. Last year’s second half was no fluke, and the league was just starting to take notice.

For Atlanta fans, it’s a minor disappointment. Young has become the hottest show in the city, and after a crushing loss to the Cardinals in the NLDS, and a football season that never seemed to get started, the Hawks were beginning to breathe some life into the sports scene around here. Now, they will have to wait patiently, but they should be thrilled is not a severe injury.

Here is Young talking to the media following last night’s game:

Update: MRI revealed phenomenal news for the Hawks, as the situation has already improved from yesterday – ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports. Young could be back on the floor next week.
